The TP-Link FC311A-2 is a Gigabit WDM media converter that converts between electrical and optical signals. It gives you one Gigabit RJ45 port and one Gigabit SC fibre port, so you can extend an existing copper network over single-mode fibre for up to 2 km.
The FC311A-2 uses WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) technology to send and receive data over a single strand of single-mode fibre. TP-Link states this saves half of the cable deployment cost compared with dual-fibre deployment. It also suits commercial applications such as remote video surveillance and wireless networking.

The FC311A-2 is designed to work as a pair with the TL-FC311B-2, which transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm. Together they form a complete single-fibre link.

TP-Link states the converter can be used standalone or with the TL-FC1420 rack.
Other terminal devices
Any terminal device used with the FC311A-2 should send data at 1310 nm and receive data at 1550 nm.
