Shitbox Car Rally - Help us raise money for Cancer Council

Hi folks!

We are excited to announce that The Tech Geeks is sponsoring a team driving in the Shitbox Rally from May 2nd to May 10th 2025.

Your car may be a shitbox, but your wireless doesn't have to be!

Since its inception in 2010, the Shitbox Rally (and its baby brother Mystery Box Rally) have been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally, raising $50 million over the past 15 years for cancer research.

The rally has teams take their shitbox cars (worth no more than $1,500) on a 7-day drive across the Australian outback, via some of the most formidable roads. The rally is not a race – it’s a chance to have an adventure, raise support for Cancer Council and connect with other teams, many of whom have been impacted by cancer in one way or another. Vehicles often break down, but they “never leave anyone behind!”

We are backing a father-son team called “Chip off the Old Block

Kane and his father Ian are taking their 2009 Ford BF Falcon Wagon on this adventure to raise money for cancer research.

In their own words:

“Cancer has touched our lives and the lives of many we care about, which is why this cause means so much to us. We’ve set a modest goal of $15,000, but with your help, we reckon we can smash right through it!”

Like Kane and Ian, each of us in The Tech Geeks team have people in our lives that have battled or are battling cancer. We want to see a future free from this awful disease and are delighted to be a part of the adventure

Ian and Kane have with them - Starlink, Ubiquiti UDR7 and U7-Outdoor so they can send updates as they go. It also means they can provide wireless for all rally drivers at each point along the route from Canberra to Townsville.
