The TP-Link FC311B-20 is a Gigabit WDM media converter that bridges copper and fibre networks. With one 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port and one Gigabit SC fibre port, it converts between electrical and optical signals, making it simple to extend an existing Gigabit network over single-mode fibre for distances of up to 20 km.
Using WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) technology, the FC311B-20 sends and receives data simultaneously over a single strand of single-mode fibre, which TP-Link states saves half of the cable deployment cost. The FC311B-20 transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm, so it must be paired with a matching unit that transmits at 1550 nm and receives at 1310 nm, such as the TP-Link FC311A-20.
